Signs and Symptoms

  • Watery diarrhoea

  • Cramps and pain in the stomach

  • Nausea, vomiting

  • Muscle aches

  • Headache

  • Fever

Gastroenteritis can affect any person of any age.

It is more dangerous for very young children, older adults and people with other serious medical conditions.

​HOW TO HELP GASTROENTERITIS

The best way to prevent gastroenteritis is to practise good personal hygiene.

There is no cure for gastroenteritis.

  1. Stop eating solid foods for at least a few hours.

  2. Remain hydrated by drinking water.

  3. If the symptoms do not improve after a number of days, call a doctor or organise a consultation from a virtual clinic.

  4. For infants and children, call the doctor straight away if there is a high fever of 38.9oC or more, or if the child is in pain or dehydrated

​HOW TO HELP A FOOD INTOLERANCE?

Food intolerances are difficult to diagnose as the symptoms are similar to many other digestive conditions.
