Lesson 7.1

Understand Likelihood and Probability

Some text here about the topic of discussion

2

How to convert fractions to percents:

a. 1/2

b. 3/8

c. 7/12

3

How to go from fraction to decimal to percent:

We already know how to go from a fraction to a decimal...

Step 1: Divide numerator by denominator (takes you from fraction to decimal.)

Step 2: Multiply decimal by 100 (takes you from a decimal to a percent.)

Ex: Convert 7/20 into a percent

4

Definitions:

Outcomes: All of the different results that are possible.

Ex: When rolling a dice you have 6 outcomes (1,2,3,4,5,6)

Probability: The chance each outcome has of happening.

Ex: When rolling a dice you have a 1 in 6 chance of rolling a 1.

We write probability as either a ratio, a fraction or a percent.

(1:6, 1/6 or 17%)
Likelihood: How probable it is an event will occur.
Ex: impossible, highly unlikely, unlikely, as likely as not, likely, highly likely, certain.
