​rhyme scheme: the ordered patterns of rhymes at the end of the lines or a poem or verse.

​ couplet: two lines of verse, usually in the same meter and joined by rhyme, that form a unit.

​ sonnet: a 14-line poem with a formal pattern of line endings

​​Paraphrase: a rewording of something written or spoken by someone else

​implicit/implied: are suggested by details. Readers make inferences and draw connections to figure them out.

​stanza: are groups of lines in a poem or verse.

 emphasize: to state or show that something is especially important or deserves special attention.

personification: type of figurative language that gives human traits to nonhuman objects

 imagery/sensory words: descriptions that appeal to the reader’s five senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell.

​repetition: the action of repeating something that has already been said or written
