• used to talk about general truths/facts, habits.

  • If/When you press the button, the machine starts.

  • If I see a spider, I get very scared!

• used to speak about possible/probable future events

  • If I see James, I'll give him his book back.

• used to make promises or warnings

  • If you want a pet, you must promise to take care of it.
