A noun phrase is a group of words that serves the same purpose as a noun:

1. It can be the subject of the sentence

   1. To write such rubbish is disgraceful.

2. It can be the object of a verb

   1. Did you enjoy reading this book?

3. It can also be the object of a preposition.

   1. The dust bunnies gathered under the bed.
