Why was Europe interested in traveling by sea?
Trade (Silk Road) between Europe and Asia was doing well.
Growing interest in Asian spices in addition to silks & gems.
Then the Ottomans took control of land routes.
Travel by land grew expensive & dangerous.
New ship designs & new technologies made traveling by sea easier.
