What is a phrase?

What is a clause?​

The main clause is independent - able to stand alone.

A subordinate clause is dependent - does not stand alone. it depends on the main clause for meaning and is often separated by a comma.​

A phrase is a group of words without a verb.

An adverbial phrase modifies the verb, adjective or another adverb to show when, how, where, why and to what extent.

A clause is a group of words with a subject and a verb.​
