By now, you should know about how heat is transferred. Today, we're going to use that knowledge to do a challenge!
Heat Transfer
2
Before we start, let's review the main concepts.
If you can't remember something, that's okay. These questions will remind you!

Multiple Choice
What causes your skin to feel warm when it is in the sun on a summer day?
Particles in the atmosphere reflect energy from the Sun downward
The Sun radiates energy that passes through space & the atmosphere to your skin.
Hot particles from the Sun still carry some heat when they reach your skin.
The solar wind carries heated air from the Sun’s atmosphere to Earth’s surface.
4
Multiple Choice
Which best describes the flow of heat?
A. From a larger object to a smaller object
From a cooler object to a warmer object
From a warmer object to a cooler object
From a warmer object to a warmer object
5
Multiple Choice

Multiple Choice
Jim wakes up early in the morning and walks from his carpeted bedroom to the tiled kitchen. Which BEST describes why, despite being the same temperature, the tile floor feels cooler to his feet than the carpet?
A. Tile is a better conductor of heat and transfers heat away from his skin.
B. Carpet is a bad conductor of heat and transfers heat to his skin.
C. Tile is a poor conductor of heat and transfers heat to his skin.
D. The tile and carpet are the same temperature
9
Multiple Choice
Napat wants to determine the best material to make a new type of cooking pan. What type of material should he choose?
A. A material that conducts heat evenly.
B. A material that can be easily bent into shape.
C. A material that does not transmit electricity
D. A material that will remain cool to the touch.

Multiple Choice
Which will most likely occur when a raw egg is placed on black pavement on a hot, summer day?
The pavement will conduct heat and cook the egg.
The egg will reflect heat and make the pavement hotter underneath.
The egg will absorb heat and leave the pavement hotter underneath.
The pavement will absorb heat from the egg, and the egg will stay raw.

Just like the previous challenge, you will be in teams for this activity.
5 groups of 4 students and 1 group of 3 students.
The groups must be different from your previous groups!
Heat Transfer Challenge
23
1) Design a fully functional solar oven that you can use to cook food.
2) Make a draft outline and make a list of the materials that you will need.
What You Need to Do Today
1) The goal is to make a solar oven that can make 4 smores (1 for each team member) in the fastest amount of time.
2) Give a short presentation explaining the design of your solar oven, how it worked and how it can be improved.
Goals for this Project
24
Remember that your teams must be different from the last project teams.
One person can be the same but not more than that!
Now we need to make teams and start.
25
Some of your score will come from the work in your notebook. So please put all of your plans in there.
Get those notebooks out!
You may use a tablet/iPad but at the end, you will need to print out your notes and staple then into your paper notebook.
By now, you should know about how heat is transferred. Today, we're going to use that knowledge to do a challenge!
