Causes of Recession

The post-war Recession was not caused by one thing, but by several situations that together caused economic distress such as:

  • population increase/decrease (varied by area)

  • varied economic states (not everyone hit recession at the same time)

  • quick rise in prices

  • stagnant wages

  • consumer goods scarce​ - further increased prices

  • surge of New World wealth followed by drop in income​

  • inability (climate, workers etc) to produce enough food - food costs rise​
