The science of learning is devoted to understanding how learning has taken place in many different disciplines. It consists of basic research about the brain mechanisms in humans and research about how the human mind “computes".

How do we remember things?

Memory is the ongoing process of information retention over time. But how exactly does it work? According to scientists, memories are formed as a result of connections between neurons in the brain. Neurons are information messengers. They use electrical impulses and chemical signals to transmit information between different areas of the brain,New connections (synapses) are formed each time a new activity is learned. The more a person participates in a particular activity, the stronger the synapses and associated memories tied to the activity become. Isn't that interesting?

How does this study help us?

This study is mostly important for teachers because with a primary understanding of how the elements of memory work together, teachers can maximize student learning by knowing how to introduce completely new information when the have to, and how to sequence assignments that will both reinforce the retention of facts and build toward critical, creative thinking. And this can make their job much better!

What is the most effective learning theory?

Behaviourist Learning Theory - Behaviourism is one of the classic learning theories. Behaviourism suggests that the learner is a blank slate aUsing this theory, you would motivate your learners by offering positive reinforcement for individuals modelling the right behaviour, and negative reinforcement for the behaviour you want to discourage. In behaviourist training environments, the learner is passive. You, the instructor, are tasked with passing on information to them. Think traditional classroom settings, the learners sit quietly while you lecture them on a given topic and then take a test to see what has been retained.
