The word anemometer is not a word we see or hear every day. I ​know that the root meter means to measure something. I can tell from the context the the Wrights' anemometer told them the wind was blowing at over twenty miles per hour. This must mean that an anemometer measures the speed of wind.

Do you know what a hummock is?

Orville uses the word to describe something the plane is flying to. I am not sure what it could be. I am going to use a dictionary to look up the word. The dictionary said that hummock is a small hill or mound, usually on a coastline. ​

In the secondhand account of this flight, we read that Orville made one successful flight in the airplane on December 17th, to the cheers and applause of the five witnesses. The firsthand account reveals much more information about this day. What facts and details are missing from the poem.​
