The prefix "de-" means down.Something that has once been accustomed to being used has fallen out of fashion.
Desuetude
This is the most direct one. Con means "with" and suescere means "accustom" so consuetude just means exactly what the roots say.
Consuetude
Somebody that is socially accustomed will not be rough and rebellious. They will do things with a gentle touch. Manus means hand, so in a roundabout way, this makes sense.
