​SUMMARY WRITING

WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL?

​When will I ever need to summarise something in the real world?

On which social media platform can you upload the events of your entire day with excruciating detail? IF there is a platform for this, who would want to read all that information? Not only do you have limited space on social media, but your followers will most probably not read a 300-word status update, nor a 4-minute TikTok video. ​

So? You need to summarise your daily events and/or experiences!​

​When do we summarise?

​When responding to a text.

​

"Yeah, today was fine. The only exiting event was when Rory accidentally spilled ink on his phone."​

When posting on social media.

​

"Boomer be booming!"

​

When talking to your grandmother on the phone at an inconvenient time.

​

"Yes, Gran. It went well."​

​When do we summarise?

​Even when watching our favourite YouTubers, we summarise their content while watching the video.

​

Your reaction to something he/she said indicates whether that was an important piece of information or a heavy loaded controversial comment. Point being? You know what was said was important either way.

After watching the video, we use our summary to make a judgement call on whether the video was worth the watch, or not. ​
