​PREPOSITION OVER

The preposition OVER indicates:

  • that an entity is in a position that is covering something;

  • it also means “across”, that is, from one side or place to another;

  • it is also used to describe the way an object moves or is moved so that a different part of it is facing up;

  • it also indicates motion or situation in a position higher than or above another, a position upon or movement down upon.

The preposition UNDER indicates:

  • in or to a position below or lower than something else, often so that one thing covers the other;

  • it also means in or to a position below something, or below the surface of a liquid;

  • it indicates below or beneath, so as to be overhung, surmounted, covered, protected or concealed by another entity.​
