They had the birth of Democracy by the beginning of the period, although many city states, remained with different types of government, having still Kings and other forms.
People wasn't entirely ready for the Democracy back on the day.

Was a king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon. He was undefeated in battle and is widely considered to be one of history's greatest and most successful military commanders.
