Tujuan dari pembelajaran pada bab ini adalah :
1.To express hopes and wishes to others (memberikan
do’a, harapan dan keinginan untuk orang lain)

their

fortunes

and

achievements (memberikan ucapan selamat kepada
orang lain atas keberuntungan dan prestasi mereka)

Hope

merupakan

ungkapan

atau

ucapan

seseorang yang digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu
do’a, harapan atau keinginan supaya lebih baik, dan
terkabul cita-cita atau yang menjadi keinginan atau
harapannya. Keinginan atau harapan yang diungkapkan
bisa saja berdasarkan pada kondisi yang terjadi sesuai
pada

saat

ini

atau

berdasarkan

kenyataan

atau

berdasarkan sebuah khayalan.

Wish

Ada dua pola penggunaan kata wish yaitu
Pola pertama yaitu Wish + noun
Contoh kalimat:
I wish you luck on your audition (saya berharap kamu sukses dalam audisimu)
Ungkapan diatas dapat digunakan untuk menyatakan harapan pada
kesuksesan orang lain.
Pola kedua yaitu Wish + to infinitive (Verb 1) / be
Contoh kalimat:
Rena wishes to get the first rank (Rena berharap mendapatkan peringkat
pertama)
Contoh diatas dapat digunakan untuk menyatakan harapan dalam situasi
formal.

Hope

Ada dua pola penggunaan kata hope yaitu:
Pola pertama yaitu Hope + to infinitive/be
Contoh kalimat:
I hope to be a successful entrepreneur (Saya berharap untuk menjadi
pengusaha yang sukse)
Berdasarkan contoh diatas, penggunaan hope diikuti to infinitive
merujuk pada keinginan yang terjadi pada diri sendiri.
Pola kedua yaitu Hope (that)
Contoh kalimat:
I hope that My best friend is always happy (Saya berharap sahabat
saya selalu Bahagia)
