In Russian, there are 3 grammatical genders: masculine, neutral & feminine.
Masculine nouns usually end with a consonant, which is not always a case:
дом (home\house)
холодильник (fridge)
Вова (a name, familiar form of Vladimir)

Feminines usually end with а, я or ь (after sibilants).
Керчь (town Kerch)
Россия (Russia).
Америка (America).

If you combine any word with a masculine with a consonant at the end, add -а:
Мозамбик (Mosambique)
из Мозамбика (from Mosambique).
Китай (China)
из Китая (from China) !!! REMEMBER: й + а = я.

Replace а, я with -и, if followed by sibilants or к & г. In other cases -ы.
ь with и.
