A noun is a word that refers to any one of the following items: persons, animals, plants, objects, times, places, and ideas.

A conjunction connects (1) words, (2) phrases, or (3) clauses
Conjunctions
A preposition establishes a relationship between an object (usually a noun phrase) and some other part of the sentence, often expressing a location in time or place.

Persons: Bob, woman, niece, student, teachers
Animals: dog, mouse, birds
Objects: glove, car, buses, building
Places: home, office, city, Africa
Ideas: democracy, love, youth, dreams

Modifiers
Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs.
Examples: The blue car ran into the red car.
The tall woman was carrying an expensive umbrella.
The farmer patiently waited for the cows.
My house was badly damaged after the storm.

Conjunctions
John and Mary are organizing a walk-a-thon.
The book is on the table or the counter.
Alex speaks both English and Spanish.
