Stative verbs describe a permanent state and do not have continuous forms.

These include verbs of:

  • senses ( see, hear, smell, feel, taste)

  • thinking (agree, believe, consider, think, etc)

  • emotion & feelings (hate, love, wish, etc)

  • other ( look, be, belong, have, own, weigh etc)

3

NOTE:

For example:

  • think & look ( usually after a preposition)

  • be, see & have ( e.g. He's being strange these days (= is behaving))

  • smell, feel, taste & weigh (when they reger to an activity)

Some of these verbs can have continuous forms, but then there's a change in meaning.
