The Pearl Monument in Doha

A luxury artificial island called The Pearl was built on one of the nation’s major
pearl-diving sites.

Preceding the discovery of oil in 1939, pearling was one of Qatar’s main income

streams.

Pearl hunting was extremely dangerous due to the toll diving took on the

hunter’s body, combined with the constant threat of the huge barracudas, gulf
snakes and sharks nearby.

The Pearl Monument is a fountain representing a giant open oyster presenting a

massive pearl in its mouth.

Katara Masjid is one of the most beautiful Masjids in Qatar. It was designed by

the well-known Turkish mosque designer, Zainab Fadil Oglu.

It is located on the eastern coast between west bay and the Pearl.
The mosque features an outer surface decorated with a turquoise and purple

mosaic and a wonderful interior design.

The Masjid’s dome and the prayer slot (mihrab) are all inspired by some famous

Masjids found in various cities and capitals of the Muslim countries.

In addition to these outstanding features, the Masjid thrives with artistic

handicrafts such as ornaments, inscriptions and mosaic tiling.

Eid Al Adha

Eid al–Adha is a festival for all Muslims around the world and also known as
the Greater Eid. It is also known as the Festival of Sacrifice because of a
special story about Prophet Ibrahim. One night, Allah spoke to Prophet
Ibrahim in a dream. Allah told him to sacrifice his only son to show loyalty
and obedience to Allah. Prophet Ibrahim did not want to do this, but he
trusted Allah so he agreed. The devil tried to tempt Prophet Ibrahim away
from doing it, but he was ignored. As the prophet was about to sacrifice his
son, Allah stopped him. He asked Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice a ram instead.
Prophet Ibrahim had shown that he was obedient and trusted in Allah. And
his beloved son was saved!
