Introduction Paragraph
Hook/Attention Grabber: A statement, question, fact, or statistic that correlates with the essay topics.
Introductory Sentence: A sentence that introduces the text that you are referring to, the author, and the context.
Thesis Statement: A thesis statement directly answers the prompt and states the main idea/topic of your essay.
Conclusion Sentence: Tie all of your ideas together and transition to the next paragraph.

Body Paragraphs: M.E.A.T
Main Idea. The part of a topic sentence that states the main idea of the body paragraph.
Evidence. The parts of a paragraph that prove the main idea.
Analysis. The parts of a paragraph that explain the evidence.
Transition. The part of a paragraph that helps you move fluidly from the last paragraph. (Conclusion Sentence)

Conclusion Paragraph
A conclusion is the final piece of writing in a research paper, essay, or article that summarizes the entire work. The conclusion paragraph should restate your thesis, summarize the key supporting ideas you discussed throughout the work, and offer your final impression on the central idea.

Practice Independent Prompt
After reading excerpts from "Letter from Birmingham Jail" by Dr. Martin Luther King, discuss King's main argument throughout the letter. Does he focus on the detriments that African Americans encountered during the Civil Rights Movement? Does he promote peaceful protests? Conduct an argument and support it with sufficient reasoning and evidence.

I will issue each student their "Ich Bin Ein Berliner" essays back.
Each group will work on their designated section until the timer runs out. (Remediation/Revision)
Each group will switch after 20 minutes.

Scoring
Once the students have been to each center, they will switch essays with their peers and use the MAAP Writing Rubric to score the essay.
