Body Systems: Circulatory

  1. The circulatory system is the body system that moves blood around the body.

  2. The heart, all blood vessels, and blood make up the circulatory system.

  3. To stay alive, animal cells must get water and oxygen.

  4. Animal cells also produce carbon dioxide, a waste that must be removed.

  5. An animal's respiratory and circulatory systems work together to do these jobs.

Multiple Select

Which jobs does the circulatory system do?

1

It brings nutrients to cells.

2

It helps remove carbon dioxide waste from the body.

3

It brings oxygen to the cells.

4

It breaks down food into small pieces.

4

Multiple Select

Which of these might be part of an animal's circulatory system? Select all that apply.

1

esophagus

2

blood vessels

3

heart

4

blood

5

Body Systems: Respiratory

  1. An animal's respiratory system is made up of organs that work together to bring in oxygen gas from the environment.

  2. The respiratory system is made up of lungs, gills, and passageways to the lungs.

  3. The respiratory system also removes carbon dioxide gas from the animal's body.

  4. Some animals have lungs to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide with the air.

  5. Other animals have gills to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide with water.

Multiple Select

Which jobs does the respiratory system do? Select all that apply.

1

It brings oxygen to the blood.

2

It pumps blood throughout the body.

3

It removes carbon dixiode waste from the blood.

4

It takes in oxygen from air or water.

7

Multiple Select

Which of these might be part of an animal's respiratory system?

Select all that apply.

1

gill

2

heart

3

lungs

4

passage ways to the lungs

8

Grasshoppers don't have blood vessels!

Your heart pumps blood through your blood vessels. But many invertebrates, including grasshoppers, do not have blood vessels. The grasshopper's heart pumps blood to the open spaces in its body. Blood reaches the grasshopper's cells and exchanges nutrients, oxygen, and waste with the cells.

11

Amphibians have lungs that help them take in oxygen. But many amphibians, including this red-spotted newt, can also get oxygen through their skin! The newt's skin can take in oxygen from the air or from water.

12

Like many invertebrates, horseshoe crabs have blue blood! Even though mammal blood and horseshoe crab blood are different colors, they have the same job.
