A friendly letter is an informal letter which can be written to family, friends or persons you are very close with. You do not write a friendly letter to your teacher, principal or persons in authority.

This type of letter does not use a formal tone; however, it does follow certain guidelines when being handwritten.

DO remember to:

1.Write your address at the top right followed by the date (no space)

2.Skip one line after the date and write the greeting or salutation.

3.Skip a line, INDENT and begin the first body paragraph. In the first paragraph, give a brief overview of why you are writing the letter. Second paragrpah, give details; third paragraph, express well wishes and a desire for a response.

​DO remember:

4.Skip a line and write your complimentary close. Wish the person you are writing to well with a special nickname if you know of one. The complimentary close should also begin in line with your address at the top.

5.DO NOT skip a line but write your name directly below the complimentary close.

6.DO NOT write Jamaica under your address for a local letter.
