Simple Sentences
Simple sentence has a subject.
Simple sentence has a predicate
Simple sentence complete an entire thought.
Example: Tracy ran through town.

Compound Sentence
2 independent clauses joined by a comma & coordinating conjunction
Coordinating Conjunctions: FOR. AND. NOR. BUT. OR. YET. SO
Can also be joined by semicolon
Example: Ashley enjoyed rap music ; she really likes the City Girls.

Compound sentences
Two simple sentences combined together using a conjunction is a compound sentence.
This means there are two independent thoughts.
This means there is a subject and predicate in each simple sentence.
Where the period would end the first sentence is where you will place the comma and the conjunction.
Example: Tracy ran through town, and she saw several other joggers jogging.

Complex Sentence
1 independent clause & 1 dependent clause (starts with subordinating conjunction)
Examples: Unless you complete the work, you will not pass the class.
She did not go to the movies even though she had a ticket.

Complex Sentences
A complex sentence has an independent clause joined by one or more dependent clauses.
It always has a subordinator.
Example: While Tracy was out running, she stopped by the post office to pick up her mail.
