​Passive Voice

Türkçe'deki Edilgen çatıya denk gelen yapıdır.

ör. Masa henüz temizlenmedi.

The table has not been cleaned yet.

Burada amaç kişi kimin yaptığı değildir, amaç işten etkilenen kişi ya da nesneyi ön plana çıkarmaktır.

​Passive Voice cümlelerde işi kimin yaptığı çoğunlukla önem taşımaz.

ör. Avustrulya'da İngilizce konuşulur.

English is spoken in Australia.

Yukarıdaki örnekte olduğu gibi işi kimin yaptığı (Avustralya'da yaşayan insanlar) belli olsa da bunun üzerinde durulmaz.

​ör. Şiddetli yağmur nedeniyle, uçuşumuz ertelendi.

Our flight has been delayed due to the heavy rain.

Yukarıdaki örnekte önemli olan uçuşun ertelenmesidir, kimin uçuşu ertelediği önemli değildir.

​Bazı durumlarda işi kimin yaptığını da eklemek isteriz.

ör. Nutuk M. K. Atatürk tarafından yazıldı.

"Nutuk" was written by M. K. Atatürk.

İşi yapan kişiyi "by" ifadesinden sonra kullanırız.

ör. Telefon Graham Bell tarafından icat edildi.

The telephone was invented by Graham Bell.

​Passive Voice cümle kurarken dikkat etmemiz gereken birkaç nokta vardır.

1. İşten etkilenen kimdir/nedir?

2. Zamana uygun "be" fiili çekimi nedir?

3. Fiilin 3. hali nedir?

   Not: düzenli fiillerin -ed takısı almış halleri de fiilin 3. halidir.

   ör. wash - washed - washed

   do - did - done

​Active --> I did the shopping.

Passive --> The shopping was done.

1. İşten etkilenen nedir? --> the shopping

2. Zamana uygun "be" çekimi nedir? --> was

3. Fiilin 3. hali nedir? --> done

• They are painting the walls now.​ (active)

• The walls are being painted now. (passive)

"Continuous" bir fiil çekimi varsa bunu ifade etmek için "being" eklenmesi gerekir.
