RECOUNT TEXT
LET’S TELL ABOUT YOUR
UNFORGETABE EXPERIENCE

1. Definition of Recount Text
Recount text is a text that retell about experience or event that
happened in the past.
Recount text is not history, it just a real story that happened before
you write the story.
The story in the recount text can be:
•Experience during the holiday
•Experience during joining the competition/olympiade
•Your birthday experience
•Your unforgetable experience.

2. Generic Structures of Recount Text
1. Orientation
It is part of text opening or introductory paragraph which contains
the background of the story, such as who was involved, or when
and where the story occurred.
2. Series of Event
It is part of the contents of the text which contains a series of
sequential events experienced by the writer. For example, if the
Recount Text tells about the experience about joining the
competition, then the Series of Event section contains a series of
events that were experienced sequentially, starting from the start
of the preparation for the competition until the end of the
competition.

3. Reorientation
This is the closure of the text which contains conclusions,
messages, impressions, or the writerr's feelings for the events
experienced. For example, the writer tells about his experience in
the competition and it turned out that he won the 1st place in the
competition, so the writer can tell how happy he was when he
found out that he won the 1st place.

3. Language Features of Recount Text
A. Using Simple Past Tense
Past tense is used because the events that are being told are
events that occurred in the past, so we must use a tense that the
function is to express events that occurred in the past, namely the
Simple Past Tense.
B. Using Adverb of Time and Adverb of Sequence

3. The Example of Recount Text
Last month, I joined the Rogu Marathon, my first marathon contest. I thought it
would be a great experience for me to try out. I had to run 42 kilometers to complete
it. It was hard.
First, I woke up very early in the morning because the marathon started at 7 a.m.
When I arrived at the venue, I found out that there were actually a lot of people who
participated in it. We were excited to run the marathon.
When the marathon started, I ran as fast as I could. After some kilometers, I was
already tired, so I just jogged for the rest of the way. Finally, I finished the marathon.
It was exhausting, but it was also so fun.
After that, I wanted to join another marathon. I was interested in improving my
running time, and I also experienced a good feeling with the other runners. It was a
very wonderful experience for me.
