Remember that the digits to the left of the decimal represent whole numbers and the digits to the right represent less than one or a fraction of a whole.

Underline the place value you're rounding to. Then look next door to the right. If it's five or more, add one onto the underlined number. If it's four or less, leave it alone. All the numbers after that are made into zeros or are left blank.

Let's try one
Round 12.37 to the nearest tenth.
Underline the digit in the tenths place: 12.37
Look next door to the right. That number is 7. It is greater or equal to 5 so the underlined number will bump up to a 4. All the digits to the right of the tenths place are left blank.
