What is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism is the use of another’s original words or ideas as though they were your own. Any time you borrow from an original source and do not give proper credit, you have committed plagiarism and violated the copyright laws.

​Myths about plagiarism

ž1. Many people think plagiarism is passing off someone else’s words, but it also means passing off someone else’s ideas. In other words, even if you paraphrase a text, the idea still needs to be cited.

ž2. The phrase “without crediting the source” means that it’s okay to use the words and ideas of others, but you have to cite the source to avoid committing plagiarism.

žWhat are the consequences of plagiarism?

ž1st Occurrence: The student receives a zero on his work. A warning letter will be issued by the school to the concerned student. This letter must be signed by both the student and the parent. The student signs an undertaking to abide by the policy or else his/her account will be suspended. 12 behavior marks are deducted.

2nd Occurrence: The student’s account will be suspended. Parents and students are informed
