2
What is acid rain?
Acid rain is a rain that is acidic. The rainfall made is so acidic by atmospheric pollution that it causes environmental harm . It can have harmful effects on plants, aquatic animals, and infrastructure.
3
How are acid rains formed?
It all starts when steam from factories, chimneys and engines of trains and cars are exposed into air. With these gases sulfur oxide and nitrogen are also released into air and merge with oxygen and they rise high into the atmosphere. As this happens clouds are formed containing these harmful gases. When clouds can't hold chemicals, it all rains. Thus, forming acid rains.
4
Effects of acid rains?
It causes respiratory issues in animals and humans.
Acid rains affect the aquatic ecosystem as it alters the chemical composition of the water, to a form which is harmful to the aquatic ecosystem. This also causes water pollution.
Acid rain also causes the corrosion of water pipes, further resulting in leaching of heavy metals such as iron, lead and copper into drinking water.
It damages the buildings and monuments made up of stones and metals.
5
How can we prevent acid rains?
A great way to reduce acid rain is to produce energy without using fossil fuels. Use renewable energy instead. They help reduce acid rain because they produce less pollution.
We should also conserve more energy, reducing the need for burning fossils. We can do this in many ways ; carpooling, using public transportation, turn off lights, computers, and appliances when you're not using them, etc.
