What is air?

Air.

It's a mixture of different gases. The air in Earth's atmosphere is made up of approximately 78 percent nitrogen and 21 percent oxygen. Air also has small amounts of lots of other gases, too, such as carbon dioxide, neon, and hydrogen.

Take a simple balance machine and tie equal-sized inflate balloons on either side of its lever. You will observe both the balloons hang at the same height from the ground. Now, blast any one of the inflated balloons and observe that the lever on the deflated balloon side tilts and moves upwards.

Air has weight

Air is a real substance and it has weight. That is why it weighs 14.7 pounds per square inch at sea level. What scientists mean when they give this figure is that if a column of air one square inch in size from sea level to the top of the atmosphere above Earth would weigh 14.7 pounds.

4

Procedure - A glass bowl is half filled with water. An empty glass tumbler is inverted inside the bowl. When the tumbler is tilted, bubbles are seen in water. Observation - The air was occupying space inside the tumbler, and on tilting air is displaced and bubbles come out because of that.

Air occupies space

According to the definition, matter is something that occupies space and has mass. When a balloon is filled with air, it becomes bigger in size and it can be weighed. It proves that air occupies space. Hence the given statement is true.

Made of different gases

Air plays a very important role in the survival of living things. Air is defined as a mixture of different gases. It is also known as atmosphere. Air is made up of different gases which include nitrogen, carbon dioxide, oxygen and many other gases in small amounts.

Air is a colourless, odourless, and tasteless mixture of different gases consisting mostly of nitrogen (N2) and oxygen (O2) in abundance. Oxygen is the part of Earth's atmosphere that humans and all other animals breathe in order to obtain the oxygen to sustain and support life.
