A group of people who share the same culture, language, traditions, history, etc...
Nation

A state that is mostly made up by one nation of people.
Nation-state
Japan is a nation-state, because alomst everyone in Japan is culturally Japanese.

A nation of people who have no state of their own.
Stateless nation
The Kurds are a nation of people in the Middle East who do not have a nation of their own. The Basque in Spain, and Native Americans in North & South America are other examples.

A state that is made up by many different nations of people.
Multinational State
The UK is a great example of a multinational state, because the country is made up of the English, Welsh, Scottish, and Northern Irish.

A nation of people divided among multiple states.
Multistate nation
Koreans are a nation of people divided between 2 states for political reasons.

Gray areas that are given a degree of freedom and ability to self govern, but still under the sovereignty of a larger state. Usually exist because there is a minority nation present in the area and created to avoid conflicts.
