Solving Two step Inequalities
Section 3.2
You will need:
Notebook
Calculator
Pencil
Worksheet from Sub
2
Recall the parts of an equation !!
3
What is an inequality?
Inequality means "not equal"
**Note** Inequalities does not contain the equal sign.
4
Process Steps
Step 1: Add or subtract like terms
Step 2: Multiply or divide both sides by the coefficient (the # with the variable).
**If the coefficient is negative, flip the inequality sign**
Remember we want the variable on one side by itself!
Step 3: Set the variable to the solution using the inequality symbol.
5
Multiple Choice
What is the coefficient?
Numbers that stand alone.
A letter (a-z) that represents an unknown number.
The number in front of the variable.
6
Multiple Choice
A variable is represented as a....
Number
Letter
7
Multiple Choice
What does inequality mean?
equal
not equal
8
Reminders:
Goal: Get the variable by itself
Start on the side with the variable
What you do to one side, do to the other!
9
Tips for Solving!
Add or subtract before multiply or divide
Don't forget to flip your signs when you multiply or divide by a NEGATIVE on BOTH SIDES!
Graph your answer when finished
