explaining
our
ideas
and
giving
an
information to someone, we should put some
examples, it will make our ideas more real,
clear
and comprehensive for listeners or
readers.
INTRODUCTION

Phrases/Words to Introduce
Examples
In English, there are several phrases or words
that we can use to start the examples that we
will give
In Indonesian it means ‘contohnya....' . After
the phrase example, we should provide some
appropriate examples. If 'for example' is at the
beginning of the sentence, put a comma (,)
after it. If we use 'for example' in the middle of
a sentence, put a comma (,) before and after it.
FOR EXAMPLE
1
Example:
•At first, Henry Ford was not very satisfied with his
automobile innovation. For example, the car did
not look impressive and still very expensive
•English was also spoken by the UK ex-occupied
countries, for example, the United States, Canada,
Australia and New Zealand.
Notes:
1. frase ‘For example’ digunakan di awal kalimat,
contoh
harus
dengan
kalimat
yang
lebih
lengkap, tidak hanya berupa daftar beberapa
items saja.
2. Ketika frase dipakai di tengah kalimat, frase
tersebut diikuti daftar beberapa items sebagai
contoh. Perhatikan contoh kedua diatas : The
United States, Canada, Australia and New
Zealand
- itu hanya berupa daftar contoh
negara bekas jajahan UK, berupa daftar saja
bukan
berupa
kalimat
lengkap.

Phrases/Words to Introduce
Examples
In English, there are several phrases or
words that we can use to start the
examples that we will give
SUCH AS
2
Example:
•I prefer to wear casual clothes, such as jeans and
T-shirts.
•Some countries, such as Brazil and Canada, are
big.
The phrase 'such as' is only used in the
middle of a sentence. Put a comma
before 'such as' and don't need to put a
comma after it.
The phrase such as can be used in the
middle
of
a
sentence
without
any commas. Take a look at this
Example:
•Car companies such as Toyota and
Ford manufacture their automobiles
in many different countries around
the world.
(Perusahaan mobil seperti Toyota dan
Ford
memproduksi
mobil
mereka
di
berbagai negara di seluruh dunia.)
You may be wondering why there are no
commas.
The answer is simple: the words
after such as are necessary and essential to
the meaning of the sentence. If you take out
those words, the meaning will change.
Let's
take out such as:
•Car
companies
manufacture
their
automobiles in many different countries
around the world.
(Perusahaan
mobil
memproduksi
mobil
mereka
diberbagai
negara
diseluruh
dunia).
