​Musical Staff

The musical alphabet represents notes and pitches. It includes only 7 letters.

Ascending: ABCDEFG

Descending: GFEDCBA

A symbol placed at the beginning of a staff that indicates which pitches are represented

Clef

Treble Clef: musical notes above middle C. Notes on the staff are read from bottom to top.

Treble Line Notes: EGBDF

Treble Space Notes: FACE

Bass Clef: musical notes below middle C. Notes on the staff are read from bottom to top.

Bass Line Notes: GBDFA

Bass Space Notes: ACEG

Bass Clef

A symbol that indicates the number of beats in each measure.

Here we have the symbols for 4, 3, and 2 beats per measure

Time Signature

The two main symbols on a musical score. The notes represent the sounds we hear while the rests represent the sounds we don't hear.

Notes and Rests

To put it simply, sharp notes and flat notes are opposites. While the sharp note goes up, the flat note goes down

Sharps and Flats

Raises the pitch Lowers the pitch

by 1/2 step by 1/2 step
