1.Direct Quotation

• exact words a character says

• put " " around the words actually being said

• blue = speech tag

• red = direct quotation

Examples of Speech Tags

• said

• asked

• whispered

• sighed

• yelled

• ...and much more!

2.Where does the comma go?

• inside the " "

• period if it's the last thing being said

• also end with ! or ? (inside " ")

• Comma after the tag (if it's in the beginning or middle).
