Water
2
There are three states of water--solid (ice), liquid (water), and gas (water vapor)
States of water
3
Water boils at 100o Celsius (C)
Water freezes at 0o Celsius (C)
States of Water
4
States of water
The process of going from a liquid to a solid is freezing
The process of going from a solid to a liquid is melting
The process of going from a liquid to a gas is evaporation
When a plant or other organism releases water vapor it is transpiration
5
The process of going from a gas to a liquid is condensation & the process of going from a solid to a gas is sublimation
States of water
6
Specific Heat
Water has a high specific heat, which is the amount of energy it takes to raise it one degree Celsius. This is why during the summer, the water at the beach is cool!
7
Multiple Choice
The change in state from a gas to a liquid
Transportation
Condensation
Groundwater
Sublimation
8
Multiple Choice
The process by which plants release water vapor into the air through stomata; also the release of water vapor into the air by other organisms.
Transpiration
Condensation
Groundwater
Sublimation
9
Multiple Choice
The change of state from a solid directly to a gas.
Transpiration

What temperature does water freeze at?
5C
0C
15C
212C
11
Multiple Choice
What is specific heat?
The amount of energy it takes to cool down 1 degree
The amount of energy it takes to boil 1 liter of water
The amount of energy it takes to raise the temperature 1 degree
The amount of energy it takes to melt 1 gram of ice
12
Water Cycle
The water cycle continuous movement of water between the atmosphere, land, oceans, and other bodies of water.
13
The continuous movement of water between the atmosphere, land, oceans, and other bodies of water.
Water Cycle
14
Water Cycle
The water cycle begins with water being evaporated with energy from the sun. Then water vapor cools down and condenses into clouds. The clouds get heavy and water falls in the form of precipitation.
15
Precipitation is water falling from clouds in the form of rain, snow, sleet, or hail.
Water Cycle
16
Multiple Choice
Any form of water that falls from the earth's surface from the clouds
Sublimation
Precipitation
Condensation
Groundwater
17
Multiple Select
Select forms of precipitation
Rain

Snow
Oil
Hail
18
Multiple Choice
What powers the water cycle?
The sun
The moon
The wind
The ocean
19
Run off is when water that can't be absorbed in the soil runs downhill because of gravity. Contributes to streams, lakes, rivers, etc.
Water Cycle
20
Surface water is water on the surface of land. All bodies of freshwater found above the land is surface water.
Surface water
Groundwater is the water present beneath Earth's surface in rock and soil pore spaces
Groundwater
2 types of water

Lakes and rivers
Glaciers
Wetlands

Groundwater
Aquifers -- An Aquifer is an underground layer of rock and soil that can hold water and allows the flow of groundwater. It is permeable, which means that things can go through it. Water can seep into the ground from surface water in a process called infiltration.
23
Multiple Choice
All the bodies of fresh water, salt water, ice, and snow that are found above the ground
Surface water
Evaporation
Transpiration
Runoff
24
Multiple Choice
