How did thinking about
nature progress?
•Before the Greeks, people felt the
gods controlled things and humans
could do little on their own.
•During the time of the Greeks,
people began noticing patterns in
the world around them and they
realized that nature followed certain
patterns and rules.
•After people started noticing these
patterns, philosophers (those who
loved wisdom, studying nature, and
figuring out how humans fit into all
of it) began asking questions to help
them figure out how the universe
worked.
•In modern times, scientists conduct
experiments to try to understand
nature and control it.
