today we learn and review about the history of Jamestown!

Jamestown was actually one of the first English settlements! A settlement is a place where people live. In fact, did you know that the colonist weren't born in Jamestown? The colonist actually how to adventure to find it! On the next slide you will learn more about the adventure that the colonist made!

colonist and there journey to Jamestown
The Colonists journey to Jamestown started in December 6, 1606. They stopped at the Canary Islands, then the Carribean Islands then they finally found North America in April 1607. They had been searching for the island for 4 months! The colonists thought that Jamestown was a good place to be because it was uninhabited and surrounded by water.
Disagreement with the colonist
The Powhatan Indians and the colonists never really trusted each other. Nor did the Powhatan agree with the colonists because of the way they did things.

do you know how Jamestown settlers made money? ($) Well, they sold something called Tobacco! Also, a new person named John Rofle joined Jamestown! Indians didn't have enough room to plant their crops because Tobacco required so much space.

John Smith, the leader of the Jamestown colony once said "he that will not work, shall not eat" after he got elected as colony president! Also, yes. They weren't called houses in Jamestown. They were actually called "daubs."

Everyone has friends! Even John SmIth! John Smith had a friend named Pocahontas! You know how friends always stand up for each other right? Well, that's exactly what Pocahontas did for John Smith! Yes, that's right Pocahontas SAVED John Smith from death! Wow! BUT John Smith then lived for making Pocahontas things like copper, and beads! Id you were wondering, he didn't know how to make copper or beads! Pocahontas AND the POWHATAN INDIANS taught John Smith how to make beads and copper. John Smith was elected leader of his colony in 1607.

Pocahontas was the daughter of the Powhatan. We already know the Pocahontas saved John Smith BUT how? Well, Pocahontas held John Smith by the head.

NONE of us like being sick! We don't like having colds, the flu, chicken pox, rashes, etc. WELL, there was a disease called 'starving time' you would get if colonist didn't have enough or couldn't grow enough crops. American Indians brought the colonist many diseases such as SMALLPOX.
