Introduction

• In 1967, a war was being fought between the Arabs and Israel.

• Israel won the West Bank and Gaza.

• The Jews and the Arabs see the West Bank as their home.

• Many Arabs would like to take back the land that belonged to their ancestors.

Obstacles on the Way to Peace

• In 1973, Egypt and Syria attacked Israel. After this attack, Israel worried that they couldn't defend their borders.

• Israel grew their control on the West Bank, and the Arabs accused Israel of diverting the water on their side of the river.

• Some Arabs started the First Intifada. Intifada was a campaign of violent resistance.

A Peace Agreement and Hopes for Peace

• In 1993, the two sides signed a peace agreement.

• After a while, each side accused the other of violating the agreement.

• Israel built barriers to keep the Arabs out.

• In 2005, Israel withdrew completely from the West Bank.

• The next year, an Arab group called the Hamas came into power. They is classified as a terrorist group.

A Begining War

• After the Hamas took over, the started shooting rockets into Israel.

• Israel responded with bombs in Gaza

• After rockets were fired a second time, Israel sent troops into Gaza.

• About 2,100 people in Gaza died.

• The two created a two-state solution to stop the fighting.
