The Philistines

• Were in Canaan before the Israelites arrived - came from Greece.

• Known as "The Sea People" Because they invaded the Mediterranean Sea.

• Created five towns with walls. They were skilled in making iron tools and weapons.

• Philistines accepted many ideas and practices from Canaan but kept their religion and language.

Israel and Military Conquest

• Israelites was faced with trying to make Canaan their new home because other groups of people lived there.

• They believed God gave them the land so Joshua led them in a series of battles to gain the land.

• The most famous these battles is the battle of Jericho.
