The Philistines
Were in Canaan before the Israelites arrived - came from Greece.

Israelites was faced with trying to make Canaan their new home because other groups of people lived there.
They believed God gave them the land so Joshua led them in a series of battles to gain the land.
The most famous these battles is the battle of Jericho.

After winning Canaan, Israelites settled there.

Israelites worshipped in God in a large tent called a tabernacle.
It housed God's presence
They took it down, put it away when they moved around and put it back up when they settled again.
Once settled in Canaan they built the tabernacle at a very religious center called Shiloh.
This tabernacle held the Ark of the Covenant.

Israelites believed it was a sign of God's presence.
Carried it into battle and believed it would ensure their victory in battle.
