They are used to show that something is progressing, or continuing, over time
Ex: Right now we are walking through the gate at Epic Island Amusement Park.

Past Progressive Verbs
Show an action continued over time in the past
Ex: I was talking to Benjamin.
Helping verbs used for past progressive: was, were
Use was if the subject is singular (one)
Use were if the subject is plural (more than one)
