What is informational text?

It is a non-fiction text. They are true texts, they provide the reader with facts, details, information about a specific topic.

Examples: Newspapers, biographies, autobiographies, almanacs

Elements of Informational Text

1. Headings and sub - headings – the title of the section of the text, it helps the author sort information into similar groups.

2. Key Vocabulary words or bold words – words that are important to understand and  the specific topic of the text.

3. Diagrams- pictures with labels to show the reader the different parts or to help the reader to see the information

4. Glossary – defines key vocabulary words

5. Caption – word underneath a picture that explains what the picture is.
