Lonni’s teacher asked her to write a short update on her research project. Read through her description and decide whether each source listed is a primary or a secondary source.

I am writing a research paper on the question “In what ways is improvisational theater similar to and different from other forms of theater?”

I looked up improvisational theater in an encyclopedia to get background information on how it differs from other types of theater. A search in electronic reference books led me to the term commedia dell’arte, so I searched for that in the university library catalog. That led me to a theater history textbook that addressed similarities between improvisational theater and commedia dell’arte.

I read an autobiography of an actor who started his career doing improv. I also watched footage of an improv performance at Second City to compare it with stage plays I’ve seen.

Finally, I interviewed a friend who has been in several improvisational theater performances. I’m ready to write my paper!

Which of the following is a primary source?

1
