places (the library, the office, the park)
things (a pencil, bread, a lamp)
ideas (hope, love, liberty)
2
In Spanish, all nouns have "gender".
They are either "masculine" or "feminine". This doesn't mean that they item is a girl or a boy; this gender is a grammar concept.
You must learn the "article" with the noun so that you can learn its gender.
3
"Definite" articles (meaning "the") are the ones that are often presented with nouns as you learn them.
el libro (masculine, singular)

Adjectives
In Spanish, adjectives must agree with the noun they describe in gender and in number.
This means that if the noun an adjective describes is feminine, the adjective must be feminine, and if that same noun is also plural, the adjective will be feminine AND plural as well.
Adjectives in Spanish are placed AFTER the noun.
Example: yellow blouse-blusa amarilla, blue shoes-zapatos azuleS

And if the adjective doesn't end in an o or a, we don't force it to, but it still become plural if needed:
