Why do we need Digital Certificates

Digital Certificates

A digital certificate is a pair of files, public key and private key that
are stored on the user’s computer to ensure security of data when
using the internet

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)

SSL is a protocol use to secure that information transmitted
between the user’s computer and the server. When a user login to a
website, SSL will encrypt the data.

Websites that uses SSL have a https protocol.

Encryption

Encryption is a way to protect the data by coding the data into
meaningless data, or cypher script, using an encryption key.

To decode the cypher script a decryption key that is paired with
the encryption key must be used.

We encrypt the data when we are transmitting the data so that
even if our data got stolen or hacked the data that is stolen will be
meaningless.

Firewalls

Firewall is a software or hardware that sits between the user’s
computer and any external network. It does this by filtering out all
potential malware, and monitoring all incoming and outgoing
traffic on your network.

2 Factor Authentication (2FA)

2FA is a form of verification that requires two methods of
authenticating a user.

Common examples:

After entering your password an email or text message is sent
to you with a one time passcode which you will then have to
enter this one time passcode on the website you are trying to
login to.
