• The first being through slavery people were forced to be separated by language, skin tone, and families split apart and separated by country

• This drastic separation created boundaries between people that were essentially homogenious at first (or thought to be).

• Prior to European exploration the West Indies and African Nations were separated by tribes and when Europeans arrived those tribes were separated and mixed in with Ameridian and Tiano tribes (those that survived disease )
