The family is a social group characterized by common residence, economic cooperation and reproduction. It includes adults of both sexes at least two of them whom maintain a socially approved sexual relationship and one or more children owned or adopted by the sexually cohabitating adults.

Family is the backbone of society, a pre-requisite for societal stability and a symbol of our humanity.

​Functionalist- According to Talcott Parsons1973 during primary socialization the child develops their personality and a major part of their identity.

Marxist- Margaret Benson1972 noticed that when husbands go to their exploitive jobs, they often come home stressed and angry, this frustration is directed at their wives through domestic and sexual abuse.

​Talcott Parsons1973- Religion is a set of symbols evoking feelings of reverence and is linked to rituals or ceremonies in which a community of believers practice.

According to Haralambos and Holborne2004 social stratification refers to the presence of distinct social groups which are ranked one above the other in terms of factors such as prestige and wealth.

Functionalist-Talcott Parsons1973 noted that stratification comes from commonly held value that people accept.
