​Plot: The year is 1547, and young Prince Edward VI is overwhelmed by his royal obligations as he prepares to become king after his ailing father dies. Meanwhile, a young pauper named Tom Canty is miserable in his life of starvation and abuse. When Tom visits the palace one day, he and the prince decide to switch clothing and live each other’s lives for a day. However, they find it difficult to convince anybody of their true identities. The way others treat the two boys reveals many hidden truths about people.

Theme: The lesson from of The Prince and the Pauper is not to judge a book by its cover. The prince and the pauper dressed as one another, but their clothing did not change the people they were inside.
