​Prefix

​Prefixes คําเติมหน้า หรือที่เรียกว่าอุปสรรค คํากลุ่มนี้ใช้เติมหน้าคําหลัก (root word)
เช่น un + happy = unhappy
un + kind = unkind

​Prefix

1. Prefixes ที่เปลี่ยนความหมายให้เป็นทางลบ (negative) un, non, in, dis 
   เช่น reasonable – unreasonable
   sense – nonsense

2. Prefixes ที่เติมแล้วเปลี่ยน root word ให้มีความหมายตรงข้ามได้แก่ un., de., dis…
   happy – unhappy
   classify – declassify

3. Prefixes ที่เติมข้างหน้าแล้วเปลี่ยน root word ไปในทางไม่ดีหรือไม่พอเพียง เช่น mis…, mal…., pseudo…….
   understand – misunderstand

4. Prefixes ที่บอกเกี่ยวกับขนาดและดีกรี (มาก/น้อย) เช่น super…., sub…., over…., under…., hyper…., mini…..,
   market – supermarket

5. Prefixes ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเวลาและลําดับ เช่น pre….., post….., ex…., re…..
   test – pre-test / post-test
   husband – ex-husband

6. Prefixes ที่เกี่ยวกับจํานวน เช่น uni…., mono….., bi…., tri… multi….., poly……
   lateral – unilateral
   tone – monotone

Suffix

Suffix (ปัจจัย) คือคำที่เติมท้ายคำอื่น แล้วให้คำนั้นเปลี่ยนชนิดของคำไป (เช่น อาจเปลี่ยนจากคำนามเป็นคำคุณศัพท์ เป็นต้น) แต่ความหมายของคำนั้นยังเหมือนเดิม เช่น employ (ว่าจ้าง) เป็นverb (คำกริยา) หากเราเติม Suffix “-er” เป็น employer

1. Noun Suffix  คือ คำนามที่ถูกสร้างขึ้นมา ซึ่งแบ่งเป็น 2 พวกใหญ่ๆ คือ

   • คำนามที่แสดงตัวผู้กระทำ (denoting an agent) ซึ่งถูกสร้างมาจาก Suffix ดังต่อไปนี้
     -ant / -ent / – ar / -er / -ard /-eer / -ess / – ier / -yer / -ian / -ist / -or / -ster / -monger  ใช้เติมหลังคำกริยาหรือคำนาม , adj เพื่อให้เป็น นามผู้กระทำการเท่านั้น

   • คำนามที่แสดงตัวผู้รับการกระทำ (denoting the receiver of an action) -ee / -ite / -ive

2. Verb Suffix คือ คำกริยาที่สร้างมาจาก Suffix อันได้แก่ -ate / -en / -fy / -ise / -ize

activate = กระตุ้น
quicken = ทำให้เร็วขึ้น
realize = ตระหนัก
identify = แสดงตัว

3. Adjective Suffix  คือ คำคุณศพท์ที่เกิดจากการเติม Suffix 

flexible = ที่ยืดหยุ่นได้ formal = อย่างเป็นทางการ
golden = ทำด้วยทอง useful = มีประโยชน์
British = เกี่ยวกับอังกฤษ useless =ไร้ประโยชน์
daily = รายวัน famous = ที่มีชื่อเสียง

4. Adverb Suffix คือ suffix ที่เติมแล้วทำให้คำนั้นเป็นกริยาวิเศษณ์ (-ly, -ward, -wise) เช่น 

easily = อย่างง่ายดาย
upwards = ขึ้นไปทางเหนือ
clockwise = ตามเข็มนาฬิกา
