Interest is a fee paid by a borrower to a lender for the use of money over a period of time.
On the other hand, if you save money in an interest-bearing account,
the bank pays you interest as a reward for keeping your money in the account.

There are 3 components involved in the calculation of Simple Interest
Principle - The amount borrowed / saved
Rate - The percentage of the principle
as reward / fee
Time - The duration of the
investment / loan (in years)
